MT4 was released in 2005. It predates Twitter, the iPhone, and most social media platforms used daily by Malaysian traders. But visit any forex trading community in Malaysia Telegram groups, trading forums, weekend workshops in Petaling Jaya and everyone still talks about MT4 as the platform of choice.

Charting is where MT4 truly stands out. Several periods on one display. Scores of inbuilt technical indicators. Templates of charts that can be customised and loaded immediately. Pencils that remain in the position you have put them. This creates a practical workspace for traders who spend hours analyzing price action.
MT4’s standout feature is its Expert Advisor system. EAs are automated programs that execute trading strategies. This is especially useful to Malaysian traders who have full-time jobs and can set their parameters and leave the EA to operate during London and New York sessions and review the results later. Creating EAs needs MQL4 skills, though many free versions can be found online.
The mobile version of MT4 doesn’t get enough credit. It supports live charts, trading, and account monitoring efficiently.
